Recently, an artist told me of a significant sale made without a contract. The artist expected further sales as a result of the transaction and was disappointed when nothing came of it. When queried, the buyer's agent stated that the artist had breached an important term of the verbal sale agreement. The artist had no recollection of the term, did not believe it had been part of the agreement, but had nothing in writing to prove this.
Get everything in writing. Always! Even when it feels awkward.
